Happy New Year and all the best wishes for 2020!
We have started the New Year with a bang! 
  • Learning how authors retell stories or use the ideas of others as a jumping point for their own stories
  • Discussing setting and character in a stories read aloud 
  • Creating individual characters for our own stories
  • Planning a story on a storyboard
  • Practicing addition, and introducing more adding strategies
  • Playing math games to support our learning
  • Beginning a Science unit, exploring Hot and Cold Temperatures 
  • Learning about different people who settled in the Calgary area, and how Calgary came to be
  • Practicing Basketball skills in the gym
AND…  Surviving a week of indoor recesses

January Report Cards We certainly hope that report card celebrations are going on this weekend.  Students have worked very hard and should be proud of the work they have done. Science We are exploring the concepts of “Hot and Cold” during our science learning time. Reading a thermometer and comparing temperatures has been part of our learning goals this past week. We will be moving into inquiry experiences where the students will learn how and when temperatures change.  Social Studies We are looking how Calgary has changed over time. We are hearing stories and learning about how missionaries and the N.W.M.P. began to build the city we now know  Mathletics We are practicing addition strategies and learning the place value of numbers. February 12, 2020 Heritage Park Field Trip: Our field trip to Heritage Park yesterday was absolutely amazing!  We had the opportunity to explore the homes of the Prince and Thorpe families, who greatly influenced the development of Calgary. We saw hidden staircases, interesting artifacts that we guessed the uses of, and played with toys children had in the past.  We began our time in the one room schoolhouse by riding our ponies to the stable in the school yard. In the schoolhouse we tried cursive writing, learned about Roman numerals and learned about how teachers in the past checked students for sickness before school started.  We’ve often talked about how we would love to travel back in time, and our day at Heritage Park allowed us to do just that. Thank you so very much to all the volunteers who generously shared their day with us, making this great field trip possible. Hi Everyone, We miss you!  We just wanted to check in to let you know that we are thinking of you and hoping that you are all safe. These are unsettling times, and we are sure that some of you are feeling overwhelmed. We have been at school this week and we promise you, it isn't the same without you all here.  It’s very quiet!  Tomorrow is the first day of Spring Break, please enjoy the time with your families. Get outside for some fresh air, eat well, and have a good night’s sleep! Read a good book! Learn a new board game!  Thank you for the letters and emails so far.
